All Shook Up!

Early yesterday morning, we woke to the sound of doors and windows rattling. Strange, I thought. Was it thunder? A tornado? The rumbling only lasted a few seconds but was disconcerting nonetheless. As it turned out, an earthquake in southern Illinois sent tremors as far north as Wisconsin.

In tribute to this rare event, here's a little quilt I call "All Shook Up!"

It's a variation of the classic Streak of Lightning design made with half square triangle units offset to create the lively zig-zag pattern.

I don't remember which came first, the bright colored solids or my backing print, but either way, Milly Churbuck's hand-dyed cottons and Michael Miller’s “Dysfunctional Family” comic strip fabric are a perfect pairing!

In other news, an exciting package is on its way! I'm the lucky winner of “Little Faithy,” the prairie doll made by Lucy van der Sluis of Quilting with the Past II. I'll be sure to introduce her, once she settles in.

  1. Congratulations on winning Little Faithy - she is a dear! We are all envious - of course!

Your quilt is a perfect illustration of the earthquake. Out here we definitely know what one feels like!

  2. I love your little quilt! So bright and cheerful! I need to make another little doll quilt now that Samantha (granddaughter) is here.

We felt the quake here in mid-Michigan, too. Pretty odd, wasn't it?

  4. yikes! What a great quilt! I must have missed the car talk post earlier...I teared up thinking that there will be a day when the kid mayhem will quiet down. Maybe I will have to run around the house screaming a by myself...You are a wonderful internet friend!

  5. I don't know if my house is more sturdy or if I was just sleeping more soundly than others. I did wake up and look at the clock but wasn't conscious of any quake. I feel like I missed a big event!

Congrats on winning the doll. She will be perfect in your house.

I like your zig zag quilt.
