I’m Back!
Hello there! After a two year hiatus from this space, I bet you didn't expect to hear from me again. Somewhere along the line I lost my blogging mojo and wasn't sure if/when it would return.
In the meantime, I switched my focus to genealogy, particularly collecting, restoring, and archiving old family photos. While I was at it, I rejoined ancestry.com and developed several new branches of our family tree.
As it turns out, researching ancestry and documenting quilts are not so different. Both require a level of concentration that's hard for me to sustain. I can do one or the other, just not both at the same time.
Several friends have been encouraging me to revive Persnickety Quilts and are even willing to help. Linda has offered to take snapshots of quilts while Sherry at Simonetti Studios will focus more on the occasional portrait or glamor shot. I'm excited to have their support and can't wait to start blogging again!
Most of all, I want to assuage any concerns about my health. I’m still here, not necessarily "kicking" but relieved to say my Multiple Sclerosis seems to have slowed its progression. As long as my left hand works, I can still use the computer to reconnect with you.
Thanks for visiting. It's good to be back! Diane

Garden Maze
It finally feels like Spring here. Time to celebrate with something fresh and new! Aussie quilter Marian Edwards posted this little quilt on her beautiful blog, a must read for anyone interested in antique and reproduction quilts, especially of the small variety.
Marian designed her quilt with bits and pieces leftover from previous projects. Hmm... I had some of the very same bits lying around my own sewing room!
embellished with buttonhole
stitch embroidery,
Kathy hand quilted simple designs, reminiscent of 1930s quilts.

Tickled Pink!
Hi everyone! What could be sweeter on a birthday than cake and ice cream? How about a pink and white confection like this one from my buddy Barb? It's the latest in a series of birthday quilts she's gifted me over the years.
I'm "tickled pink" with this Courthouse Steps Log Cabin! Isn't it delightful? Barb's arrangement of double pinks and shirting prints reminds me of French pastries stacked in a patisserie window.
Et voilà!
Barb must have had the same idea because look what she put on the back -- a luscious toile depicting Parisienne advertising labels. Ooh la la!
But wait, that's not all... there were birthday treats from other friends as well. Terri baked a tray of mini cupcakes that were moist, chocolatey, and way too easy to pop into our mouths whole. Linda not only brought the perfect accompaniment, pink peppermint ice cream, she snapped these scrumptious photos too.

Every Stitch a Blessing, Every Stitch a Prayer
This is not the post I'd hoped to begin the new year with. My dad’s health has been declining since Christmas, and sadly, he passed away last week. He suffered from Lewy Body Dementia, a debilitating neurological disease with symptoms similar to both Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Dad died peacefully in his sleep while in the care of hospice. He was a devoted husband, great dad and grandfather, and all-around good guy who will be remembered for his cheerful, fun-loving spirit.
What started as mindless sewing, soon became a form of prayerful meditation. Snip, sort, sew. Snip, sort, sew. Gradually, the quiet focus and rhythmic hum of my machine began to mend my broken heart.
I don't know how I'll feel about this quilt in the future. I like to think there's more healing in it than grief. Maybe I won't try to finish it -- just keep it for the next time I need some therapeutic sewing.

You’ve Got Mail
and even though I knew who it was from and what was inside,
nothing prepared me for what burst from the box as I opened it --
a glorious riot of color made by my friend, Wanda Hanson!
it's a Streak of Lightning quilt just as vibrant and lively as the name implies.
Combining Sujata Shah's design and Vicki Welsh's hand dyed fabric, Wanda achieved a
make for one very vibrant quilt! Which
color combinations do you prefer?
It's pretty hard to
It covers me perfectly from nose to toes and is just wide enough to keep me warm without entangling my arms in extra quilt.
