The Strawberry Patch Revisited

Hi everyone. Hope you had a great summer! I used the time to pull out an old project and get help finishing it up. It's a small quilt that features a vintage embroidered strawberry. Perhaps you remember it from here.

Embroidered motifs like this are typical of the 1930s-40s when they embellished household linens such as tea towels, tablecloths and pillowcases. Calico, polkadot and gingham check fabrics, also popular at the time, were ideal for adding vintage charm.

By the time I pulled the quilt out again, I was unable to do handwork anymore. Fortunately, my friend Ruth offered to hand quilt and bind it.

seems the weakness and lack of dexterity in m. A sweet quilt like this deserved better, so I showed it to my friend, Ruth, who's an , she offered to finish the project for me!

Just look at her beautiful stitches. When the perle cotton catches the light it adds a lustrous sheen to the overall design.

This little quilt was a perfect way of showcase that vintage strawberry! Thank you to Vicki Haninger for her inspiration and to Ruth, of course. for seeing the project to fruition.

  2. Terrific recipe for capturing the essence of summertime. I really need to make more little quilts instead of always making lap size versions.
